Swift Parrots in South-east Melbourne

Despite the warm weather last night they are - or were - still
there at noon today (Wednesday). 3 birds flew off probably from
a mahogany? gum which seems to have lerps rather than flowers,
but has much more shelter from the current northerly wind than
their main trees.

In the reserve across the road from the Fildes factory there is
a female Satin Flycatcher. Yesterday she - and the swifties -
were seen by 3 poms who arrived in Oz the night before. 

Maybe the swifties are staying for the people-watching. We've
had up to a dozen looking for the birds. And if they read the
local press they would have seen the factory owners being
praised today for preserving native vegetation - the swifties'
larder.
