LOL!!!!   I use that same story all the time.  I've got a client who wanted to once pay me per line of code.  I told he doesn't want to do that.  I'll be rich and he will have a lousy program.   I have some code in the office when I get back tomorrow, I'll post.  If I get this contract, I might have some consulting $$$ available.  At this time, I have to confirm the BOM (bill of materials.) Will the ts7800 do the job alone or do I need daughter NIC cards, etc.   I don't mind loading the ts7800 with a bunch of custom software, but I don't have the luxury of putting 4 router switches into the BOM. It won't fit in the box.   The size of the box is driving this project.

Like I said Leslie, you got your choice either raw Ethernet and packet decoding, or IPTables and routing. I think IPTables is the easiest here requiring some 10s of lines of code. But if you want me to do it for you, I want to be paid. Otherwise the Internal router website I gave you should be a guide.

The situation reminds me about the old story of the first Univac repairman. A secretary was running one of the old Univac tube card punch machines, when it suddenly stopped. She called Univac which promptly sent out an engineer with a bag of tools. The engineer took out a small hammer, and tapped the machine once, and it started working. He presented the secretary with a bill for $500. Five hundred dollars she exclaimed! Just for a single hammer tap!. The engineer explained to her that the tap was free, but knowing where to tap was $500

thanks

Walter
