Also, you may want to look into TCPKeepAlive. Sockets can be set up to
use this (for instance, "ssh -o TCPKeepAlive=yes "), which
sends periodic probes over the connection to make sure it is still up,
even when no data is normally flowing across it. The time after the last
data packet and the first probe, time between probes, number of failed
probes before labeling the connection dead, are all configurable (e.g.,
"sysctl -w tcp_keep_alive_intvl=60"). It's possible that this will keep
your host or ISP from disconnecting after a period of inactivity.
