It's a long shot, but try uninstalling brltty (if installed) or similar programs. I had  this problem with a serial to usb converter.

It's possible that the telco disconnects after a period of time, or a period of inactivity. I've found that I have to run a program which checks for connectivity (ping), and then re-connects. My program also switches between interfaces, looking for one which is up.

Hi all,

I'm using a ts7800 + USB 3G broadband stick for a remote monitoring
system. The USB modem I'm using is Huawei E122. wvdial works fine for
providing connectivity. But after a while (varies from 1 to 5 hours),
the link will be down, wvdial will exit and kernel will think that the
device is disconnected:

option1 ttyUSB0: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from
ttyUSB0
done!

Anybody has suggestions as how to improve this situation? I don't expect
mobile broadband link to stay up as long as a wired connection but it
would be nice if it lasted a bit longer!

Thanks and regards,
