I am using the same board as you are.  when you do the following:

# stty -F /dev/ttyS4 baudrate

you get no error on it?

I haven't gone through up to that port nos. yet - but before I have problems with com2 - all I did was to comment the ttyS1 in inittab file under /etc. and everything works fine.

On my TS7800, i use 'cat /dev/ttts4' for read. But I read anything :S
