Hi Eddie,
to focus this one a bit let's drop run-parts and if-up bits , that
just seemed to be independant corroboration of the problem with find.
To make sure I'm not misleading you with any changes I have made
locally to solve other issues , I did a fresh extraction of the
following archives and tested 'find' straight away.
I reiterate that the 7250 is loaded with 2.4.26-ts11 , fs images are
booted over nfs.
#debian-sarge-1.12 ; installed size 194MB;
# no runparts errors but drops to single user not finding sdcard.
gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)
:root# find .
.
find: .: Value too large for defined data type
#reboot to debian-sarge-256MB-05-01-2006.tar.bz2
Started device management daemon v1.3.25 for /dev
modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.26-ts11/

:root# ls /lib/modules/
2.4.26-ts10/
:root# find .
.
find: . : Value too large for defined data type
I have resolved the modules error on my test rig, that does not
affect the find issue.
So it seems that there is an issue with find not working and since
busybox config scripts use it they break also. Hence my conclusion
that I can't compile busybox with the debian arm distros provided.
This seems to affect serveral possibly all the debian sarge tarballs.
I'm a little surprised what you say about not finding a gcc that can
compile all the system. My development machine is running Gentoo ,
which as you will be aware builds everything from scratch before you
even get through with the install.
In 5 or 6 years I must have been through a dozen incarnations of gcc
from 3.4.4 to 4.2.2 now.
All were capable of rebuilding the entire system from the ground up.
The only such problem I have seen is qemu that is basically
unmaintained on gcc 4.x
The main reasons I chose to use the debian images was because it was
the closest to the target system and was provided by TS. It seemed
logical that there would be less compatability issues if I used a
debian sarge based distro and the same kernel as that target when
building software for the board.
This would still seem a rational choice.
Please let me know if you are unable to reproduce the problem.
Thanks again.
