May be you try compile for i386

may be problem is there:
make CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnu-XXX ARCH=arm menuconfig -> save
make CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnu-XXX ARCH=arm
XXX replace with your cross compiler
