Do you want them to run from the NAND-flash (mtd) environment, or to run from Debian?
Yep.. It's still alive. Their support is really good, but sometimes their support is congested with development on their end. This forus is intended to be the primary support venue. I can't find the URL, but in the past I have seen that they commit to allowing any application developed that currently operates on their 7xxx SBC's to be able to continue operating regardless of their releases and/or patches. I'm sorry that I can not provide the reference for this. They also seem very open to creating custom solutions for whatever your needs are (for a price, obviously).
SSH server runs in the Debian on-board environment by default. There is also enabled, by default, a online configuration that you can log into to modify and/or modify the running environment.
You'll have to recompile the libraries using the cross-compiler or the Debian on-board environment. If you want to run them in the stripped-down /dev/mtd environment, I'd compile the libraries or binaries staticly.. As long as they aren't too space-consuming. Otherwise it may get tedious.
You can compile from anywhere.. You just have to make sure to compile for ARM. You can do this using the "crosstool" toolchain or by developing directly in the onboard-Debian environment.
Sorry.. I have no experience with PC-104 development.
