Be warned, installing Gentoo is up hill work. You boot a live CD , 
chroot and start syncing and compiling. It's not a half hour job.

The nice thing is you only do it once. Due to continual updates 
there's never a new release. I did it 5yrs back and it's still 
running off the same install.

It's quite a technical distro and an entirely different philosophy to 
the other main ones out there but the payoff for that is _total 
control_.
