yes because the source code is based on this version; no because the
decompressor has been removed last year.

because the driver has not been updated with v4l2 support. Only v4l2 can
define newer format to be exported to applications. If you talk about why the
kernel can't decode compressed code in the kernel, it's because a lot of
people don't want a task that can be done by application.

Ask suse, but i think they prefer to support only mainline driver.
