I wholeheartedly agree that newsgroups like this one serve a function that
Facebook groups can not replicate. There is also the issue that some of us
do not want to use Facebook. I am happy to say that many of the birding and
bugging newsgroups that I am subscribed to remain quite active.

But, more and more, these groups are moving from Yahoo groups to groups.io
because Yahoo does no longer maintain its groups infrastructure. Slowly but
surely Yahoo groups is deteriorating in an irreversible manner. You can
already see this by performing a search on [Nature Recordists] and noting
that none of the 2019 messages will appear. So how do we preserve the more
than 50,000 messages of this group? Has anybody made a backup? Is anybody
considering moving things to groups.io?
