Hi all and many thanks for this superior group for its existence! Tom, you shold try cheap electronic dog whistles for experimenting with EM Message: 258s. Subject: Their main frequency area is around 30 kHz. Those whistles have been used in literature for mimicking so called FM-CF-type of bats and prey insect responses for example at experimental light sources. Main focus has been bat genus Eptesicus, but Hawaiian hoary bats have very similar way in their acoustical behaviour. Only problem is, that according my experiences those whistles are quite powerful at near distances and clipping is very common associated at least with indoor experiments. You find electronic whistles very easily through ebay, if not local pet store. Warm greetings for all of you from snowy Finland, this time under deep-cold Siberian weather front! Mikko Erkinaro |
