Hi Tom,

I never did find a way to try out the EM172s direct to a Sound Devices
702, so the limitations of EM172s may either be with the mics or the
recorder, or both (I was using an Olympus LS10, on low sense and
volume 10 for best result).

There was a definite improvement in clarity, with less noise (no noise
at all!) using the AT4022 mics to an SD702 recorder. So yes I would
recommend them. But beware, as an Australian who purchased my matched
pair of AT4022s from the USA (B&H), I was not covered by warranty.
From the start, one of the AT4022s had an intermittent spitting
problem, and I have to say I no longer use them. But if you are in
the USA you can have them replaced if there are any problems.

Vicki
