Hi David,
Your best bet for a very good PIP microphone recorder, that is still availa=
ble, would be the Sony PCM-M10. The PCM-M10 has a 5 volt supply and good ma=
tching impedance for many PIP mics. It is actually optimized for using Prim=
o Em-172 capsules, since they also use them for their internal mics. Usuall=
y PIP mics are not very low noise, so the lowest input noise recorder is no=
t necessary, unless they are very low output microphones. Understand PIP is=
not a developed standard like an XLR input. Plug in power varies in voltag=
e and impedance on different devices, which will change the performance of =
the microphone. Any PIP to XLR adapter should be optimized to the specific =
microphone you are using. Many capsules can use a 3 volt supply, while othe=
rs need a 5 volt supply to work the best. There might be some other good PI=
P recorders available that others have had good experience with.
