The Sony PCM-D100 is an excellent choice, I tend to use mine more than some=
of my other recorders, due to its portability and recording capability; wi=
thout the need for additional cabling, connectors, adapters, batteries, tri=
pods, or even external microphones. There will always of course be occasion=
s where a different recorder with specialist external microphones would be =
a better choice (and +$$$$), but if you want a good all-round standalone un=
it with excellent recording quality on a reasonable but limited budget, the=
n the PCM-D100 is the recommended choice.

A good argument to convince the Wife, is that the D100 is a replacement un=
it, is of much better quality, and will last for several years ;-)

 All the best
 Lawrence
