Hi David, Ive been meaning to build a version of the brinibox for quite a long time. Id like to "tune" the design if its possible to give at least 10 dB mechanical gain (the gain advantage due to the box boundary layer) The AT3032s running on PIP using the Sony D100 have a self noise (currently) of 10.5 dB A SPL. They could be a perhaps 1 to 1.5 dB quieter due to some fan noise ingress during the measurement at 125 Hz. By placing the mics in the brinibox and taking advantage of the boundary effect do we reach the ability to record down to the mythical 0 dB SPL? Ive always wondered if thats also the case for dummy heads that give 10+ dB gain due to the ear. Do we use gain, benefit, reflector, higher output or some other terminology to refer to a mechanical device that increases the SNR? BR Mike. |
