Hi David,
Thank you for your reply. You make a very good analogy regarding
concentrating on the microphones (lenses) and not on the field recorder
(camera). I have shared the same philosophy when I was deciding on what
camera/lens to buy. I chose to prioritize buying good lenses and spending
less money on the camera, especially because cameras become outdated much
quicker than lenses.
At the moment I haven=E2=80=99t given much thought about what microphone(s)=
I
should have, but was tending to go for a shutgun mic, mainly for the bird
recordings. I haven=E2=80=99t considered using the built-in microphone of t=
he
Fostex. You mentioned getting a pair of affordable cardiod mics, do you
have recommendations for which makes/models to consider and which to avoid
(mid-range price)? I always consider buying second hand, however, I find
the second hand marked in Norway rather limited.
Do you have any recommendations for a multi-track recorder around usd 800
(I am flexible regarding the price)? As far as I remember, the Zoom H6 does
record several tracks, but I remember people mentioning that its ergonomics
sucks in the field and that its preamp is not very good.
Thanks for the tip on keeping the recording level well clear of the
maximum, as you mentioned on in the beginning of your message I need to get
out and start recording. I like learning by doing.
