Hi Paulo =0D

I have been using the Fostex FR-2LE for field recording for several years =
now, and I am generally very satisfied with the results. First of all I fin=
d the mic-preamps very quiet, and I have done some really nice recordings o=
f almost-silent natural ambiences, without any audible preamp-hiss. That is=
, by far, the main advantage of this recorder, compared to a lot of the sma=
ller ones out there. It's easy to see the meters and adjust rec levels, und=
er all light-conditions, and also change CF-card without taking it out of t=
he bag. And the pre-rec function and wired remote control have made me do s=
ome quick and valuable recordings, when a sudden sound appears.=0D

It is not the smallest recorder, though, and it can sometimes be a bit clu=
msy to carry around in the field. And I wouldn't wanna drop it anywhere, as=
it seems to be a quite cheap plastic chassis! Furthermore, the battery-com=
partement is very hard to access, and is has happened more than once that I=
have been standing in the middle of nowhere with cold fingers, fumbling wi=
th AA batteries flying around me! Also, I find very little support from the=
Fostex website, and there hasn't been a firmware update for years. I wonde=
r if it's even part of their product range anymore? Luckily, I haven't expe=
riences any technical problems so far (knock on wood!) so it hasn't really =
been a problem.=0D
And yes, the built-in mics are useless!=0D

So all in all: it might not be the most practical or sturdy field recorder=
, but for very quiet natural ambiences, it makes beautiful results, compara=
ble to much more expensive recorders. And that is why I still use it!=0D

I have used it under very cold conditions (in Sweden btw - close to you), =
but haven't really tested it under extreme humidity.=0D

I bought mine in Germany at www.thomann.de http://www.thomann.de and I can=
see that they still sell it.=0D
