I also like having a SPDIF input - particularly handy as my MixPre-D has a
digital out. I was able to find an M-Audio Microtrack for $50 CDN...not a
fantastic recorder on its own, but very useful as it has a coaxial SPDIF
input (not to mention that it's very handy to have a second recorder in
many situations) - perhaps you can find one of these for a similar price.
One caveat I should mention - the proprietary battery is an annoying piece
of crap, so I tend to power it with an external AA battery sled via USB.
