Eric,

I once spent two months recording Tibetans in the Zanskar Valley and am now=

involved in ultrasound with bat recording. My guess is that it is ultrasoun=
d
distortion in the mic or input stage from the percussive instruments. This=

is not included in the spec of most mics.

Any chance of a short example recording with the problem?

The cure to try would be to introduce a top roll-off filter at the mic
stage. Make up a soft woolly wrap for the mic and take test recordings with=

and without, so a correction can be applied later. Use a source for this
with a high pitched hiss like a hosepipe or air nozzle.
