try recording from further away. if you are now six feet away, make it 12. =
if it is capsule overload it is the only thing you can do.

Eric,

If there's any low cut switches on the recorder or on the mics, then disabl=
e them as that can sometimes cause problems. =C2=A0Is there any auto-overlo=
ad setting on the recorder? =C2=A0Disable that as well. =C2=A0-6dB is suppo=
sed to be the max for digital recording, rather than 0dB, so you could try =
an even lower setting (e.g. max -20dB), then boost volume in post and see i=
f you still get distortion.
