I see that the specs of the Fostex are far better than the Sony

Have you any particular experience of a different comparison?

I excluded parabolic mics for problems of frequency filtering and ease of 
transport; do you think parabolic microphones are much better than a shotgun 
like the Sennheiser ME67?
Is it an issue of directionality or what else?
