External RAID systems are great to prevent data loss (e.g. Netgear ready/NA=
S NV+). Plus, if you're on a Mac, daily/weekly Time Machine backups and mon=
thly 'full image' bootable backups (e.g. SuperDuper). I'm sure there are si=
milar solutions for Windows machines.
