There are two schools of thought on this one, I prefer the simpler
option of $20 open air headphones as all I want to know is that the
signal is recording OK. I also like to be able to flick the
headphone volume to the off position and to be able to hear what is
happening around me without removing the headphones. Studio
listening is a different matter. Option 2 of closed headphones in
the field makes me feel claustrophobic and disoriented.
