The LS-14 has a High, medium, and low sensitivity for it's mics, while the
LS-11 only has a low and high. Testing both devices in the "high" sensitivity,
it appears to me the LS-14 is just as noisy, if not slightly more noisier then
the LS-11.
This would be actually good news, because some folks recently speculated that
the LS-12/14 were based on the considerably noisier LS-3/7 template. So, your
initial thoughts seem to indicate that this does not apply at least to its
preamps.

This design was already implemented on the previous LS-5/10/11 models. See
http://www.avisoft.com/LS-10.pdf.
The preamp noise that we usually face on the majority of the current recorders
is almost exclusively the thermal (white) noise of the electronic components in
the analog section of the recorder. Nowadays, potential interferences (cyclical
noise components) from the digital sections of even very compact recorders are
not a big issue anymore.

P.S.: I'm still waiting for the LS-12 to arrive in order to measure its EIN.
