So long as it's an issue of software it's likely that there will be a method for conversion so storing in the original format makes sense. Hardware another problem entirely. I've just been asked for advice from friends who recorded a cable TV series in the late seventies on reel to reel tape, and not the 'type C' that was widely used in broadcast. The tapes survive in unknown condition but playback machines haven't been built for 35 years. Nothing left but a few specialty firms maintaining rare hardware can do a conversion. Lots of reel to reel, cassette and minidisc recordists on this list who will face these problems. |
