Re: Advice on Bioacoustic Internships

Thanks, Gabriel, for your observations.

There are a few groups actually focused on biophonic issues these days
(rather than single-species fragmentation and deconstruction of the
bioacoustic field in the wild). One is the bioacoustic studies (at
both undergraduate and graduate levels) at Michigan State University
under the Envirosonics Department formerly instated by Stuart Gage,
now Emeritus but still involved. The other is the bioacoustic program
run through the Forestry Department at Purdue University and headed by
Bryan Pijanowski, whose biophonic research is funded in part by the
National Science Foundation and also supported internationally with an
invitation-only workshop planned at Aldo Leopold's Wisconsin venue
later this month. Both the MSU and Purdue programs are based on the
more holistic model I've been focused on for the past several decades
and both offer internships (at the academic level) and fully informed
programs up to and including doctorate level enquiry.

If anyone is interested in more specific information, feel free to
contact me off-list.
