it is not all that dangerous. tin the wire. touch wire to solder pad. apply=
iron (with a little freshly melted lead on it) and keep it there till the =
lead on the solder pad melts. it will feel like a long time, but it is only=
a few seconds. more components are damaged by repeated timid attempts, bel=
ieve me.

>Subject: [Nature Recordists] Resoldering a capsule lead
>
>I've just fitted and wired up 3 of my 4 EM172 capsules. The black lead fel=
l off the 4th capsule.
>
>I've heard it's very easy to damage a capsule when soldering leads on. Is =
there a good technique for doing it?
>
>I've only got a 25W soldering iron, not temperature controlled. Do I have =
a chance with it, or should I get something better (as I've been meaning to=
do for 40 years)?
>
>I was thinking I would get a molten blob of solder on the end of the wire,=
then hold it on the capsule terminal without ever touching the capsule wit=
h the iron.
>
>It's only a $10 capsule, but to get another means a two week wait.
