Bad issue! I'm following w/ interest as I depend on an 8040 frequently.
You might unscrew the capsule from the body and clean the connectors. I'm
not sure the best method for this, but seems you couldn't go wrong with a
clean dry lint-free cloth.
Also check your cables.
