<<I carry around 25k worth of stuff and there would be no way I could ever =
trust TSA for items in a checked bag. >>
TSA aren't the problem. Pilferage comes from the baggage handlers who are a=
irline or airport employees, & who now have access to unlocked luggage.
I travel to around 90 concerts a year worldwide with a considerable booty o=
f Neumann & Schoeps mics, as well as a rack of processors, laptop, drives, =
in-ear monitor system, custom snakes, etc., all in a dozen Pelican cases. I=
n nearly 20 years touring with this act we haven't had a single item stolen=
from the gear cases. (Knocks on wood.) My tour manager & I are in the habi=
t of running a cable tie through the lock ring in the cases. In the US TSA =
always opens them, leaves a certificate of inspection, then attaches a new =
zip tie. Thus far it seems to be keeping the baggage handlers honest. In Eu=
rope security often does an open case inspection in front of us before the =
cases go on the conveyor.
