In my use of Star Quad wired for stereo, two Neumann KM140 mics (transforme=
rless outputs) feeding a Symmetrix preamp (transformerless inputs) in conce=
rt hall locations resulted in audible RF breakthrough in the signal. So the=
potential downside is not just theoretical, it can ruin a recording. It wi=
ll depend on a conjunction of factors & I don't want to have to count on ju=
st being lucky. Mogami 2 pair stereo cable has worked without problems for =
the last couple decades after the Star Quad-as-stereo proved a failed exper=
iment to me.
