As the owner of a PMD661, I'm sorry to hear yours is no longer
working... To my way of the thinking the PMD661 is one of the best
recorders available today.
As a field & backup recorder, I use a Olympus LS-11 and recommend the
LS-11 highly. I have tried the Tascam recorders and not kept what
Tascam recorders I have tried along with Zoom recorders, they have all
been a disappointment to me but the Olympus LS-11 does not disappoint.
The LS-11 is a well made, rugged little recorder and has very good mic
preamps. I purchased my LS-11 to use in the field as it is half the size
of the PMD661, and while you give up some of the operating features of
the PMD661, the Olympus LS-11 more than makes up for it in how well it
records and its very good internal microphones.
I don't know how prices are where you are located, presently here in the
states, the LS-11 is available new for $234.50:
http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-LS-11-Linear-Recorder/dp/B002RDWL9Q
Which is a price considerably less expensive as a PMD661 and yet is a
recorder capable of making recordings equall in quality to the PMD661 as
I use it...
I would not recommend anything less than the Olympus LS-11 in quality or
value, it has been my experience you would find anything less to be a
disappointment...
