Sure, there is a tradeoff between sound quality and simplicity. The optimal=
 set-up would be of course something like Rob's solid construction with a r=
oof at a much larger distance from the mics.

The rain drops are of course also clearly audible in my set-up. Note that m=
y specific arrangement is intended for bat activity monitoring, where the a=
udible sound quality is not that important. Bye the way, the sound-activate=
d recording system to which these microphones are connected can be configur=
ed in such a way that it is not triggered by the sound of the rain drops.
