Don't let the high prices sway you away.  If you buy used, you can generall=
y sell the stuff for what you paid for it.  And with pending hyper inflatio=
n and current economic woes, that's probably a better deal than your 401k o=
r Stocks.

If you want some sticker shock, take a look at the Arri Alexa for video.  A=
 nice piece of kit.  And there's more expensive ones than that.  Audio is c=
heap in comparison.

You can always rent the gear if you happen to live near a rental house.  Re=
ntal rates are about 1% to 10% the value of the gear being rented.  Which y=
ou might want to do initially anyway so you're not stuck with something you=
 don't like.  Or something way more than you need.
