> And RME don't say what sort of dB their -129 dB spec uses.
Hi Eric,
Yes, the RME website does not say whether it is dBV or dBu. Nevertheless, t=
he most common unit would be dBu in this context.
On the other hand, it is relatively easy to make a preamp providing an EIN =
of -130 dBu (A-weighted, measured with 150 ohm termination) as long as the =
battery capacity is sufficiently high.
A few years back I soldered a simple preamp for my ancient SONY DAT recorde=
r TCD-D3, based on an INA 163 instrumentation amplifier chip (http://focus.=
ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ina163.pdf), which provided an EIN of -130 dBu(A). An=
d this chip is not that expensive. See http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk=
Search/dksus.dll?Detail&name=3DINA163UA-ND&itemSeq=3D87115989&uq=3D63411911=
7030639552
I would therefore trust that the REM Quadmic EIN figure is given in dBu.
Regards,
Raimund
