Hi Mitch,

With Raven Lite, on my Mac OSX 10.4 anyway, you can load sound files
that are longer than one minute, but only approx. one minute maximum
will show up in the Raven window at any one time. You can scroll
along the sound file though, to see other parts of it. Raven is best
for analyzing, say, up to 10 seconds of sound e.g. a phrase of
birdsong, then you can expand the sound so that 10 seconds fills the
window. That way you can see all the detail of the song phrase, and
the individual notes.

If you want to analyze a long sequence of sound, on a Mac you could
try Amadeus Pro (which will show a longer length of sound in the
window, e.g. I just tried a 10 minute file which I can now see in its
entirety on the screen as a sonogram).

You could also try Izotope RX which works on both Mac and PC. This
is designed as noise reduction software but can make very nice
sonograms too, longer than half an hour if you need, with everything
fitting on the screen at one time. There are a million settings on
Izotope, but with the right ones the results are excellent. You will
get a white trace on a black background. There is no 'save sonogram'
function, but on a Mac you can take a screen shot, then invert the
image in Photoshop to get a black trace on a white background.

good luck!

Vicki
