It was a pretty elaborate system set up by Tony Mayatt, a professor at
the University of York, and a developer who works closely with the
ambisonic folks. You're certainly welcome to contact him:
He's developed a conversion process whereby one can take a stereo
omni, XY, or MS recording, and convert it into a really credible
ambisonic performance that's pretty damned impressive.
