Hi David and Grant! I use a Sennheiser MKH80/40 combination and I came to the same conclusion as Grant: 1:1 works fine for me and I decode it while recording to stereo. Sometimes while setting up my rig I check the stereo pitcture with a headphone I decide to reduce the mid by 6 dB if I like the panorama more.
