I'm in the some boat as you. My MZ- RH10 is giving me too many problems.
If you are looking for a recorder of the some sound quality of your
minidisk, I don't like you chances of getting anything you will happy
with for AU $500. With recent suggestions I have read and a quick look
on the web, the starting price for
Olympus LS 10- $700
Sony PCM 50- $850
Fostex Fr 2le- $1000
Marantz 660's and 670's series- $1500 to $2500+
There are recorders such as the Zoom H2 and H4n are in your price range
and are apparently easy to use but you may not be happy with the sound
quality. It will be interesting what others may suggest.
