I asked the question on the Sound Devices forum because I am about to do the 
same but with
a 744T recorder, and the answer is:

"You'll ground pin-3 (connect it to pin-1). This is identical to the 
tranformerless inputs
on all 7-Series recorders." This is from Sound Devices support.
