> Don't overlook the Marantz PMD 620 if you plan on really long term or una=
ttended recordings. Some of the recorders don't behave so well when you ge=
t to the 2GB .WAV file limit. I'm using mine for frog calls, and am very h=
appy with the results, the current record being 36 hours continuously with =
an external battery.
I nearly overlooked the 620 too, since it is reported to be noisy. That was=
until I realised that you can get a modded version from Doug Oade. I don't=
know the actual noise values for his modded version, but here is the page:

The "super" is the one for nature recordists.
I will soon be receiving a modded Fostex FR-2le, and a modded Marantz PMD 6=
Message: 20.
Subject: If people would like some tests of these and mics, I would be happy to
=
do it so long as it is not too complicated to set up. No stock models to co=
mpare them too I'm afraid. The only other machine I have is the original mi=
crotrack, so I could compare that too if that helps. I can use AT 3032 mics=
and hopefully DPA 4060 mics in tests. If this would be useful for the grou=
p, perhaps someone could give me simple (novice) instructions on how to set=
up a test.
