XLR cables in Japan, and DAC

I will soon be receiving a Fostex FR-2le, and will need to connect it to 2 =
AT-3032 mics. I have no idea about cables. I have searched the old threads,=
and found that the cables should be shielded, and needn't be expensive. Ot=
her than that, I don't really know how to judge what to buy. As I think som=
e of you are also in Japan, do you have any recommendation of which cables =
to buy? Online would be great, or somewhere like Akihabara which is not too=
 far for me.

Another thing that occurred to me was playback. I have been playing all my =
recordings from my computer (Macbook) simply using the headphone output to =
my amp and monitor speakers. But I realise now that for doing any audio edi=
ting on nature recordings, I may need a lower noise floor than the one I ge=
t from my headphone output. What do you guys use for playback? I was thinki=
ng to use either my optical output (more messy) or take an output from my U=
SB hub (more neatly tucked away) to a DAC. Any advice of whether or not the=
USB route would be sufficient, and also the cheapest acceptable DACs for t=
his kind of task, would be much appreciated.

I will be glad when all these technical issues are solved and I can get on =
recording!

Justin
