I think a gazzilion other people too!

When I was first directed to this recorder by Oryoki (I think it was)
I stopped in my tracks and considered it along with the Zaxcom
recorders, another 2 or 3 grand was certainly worth considering
spending on a recorder that would give me 6 or 8 tracks without
wanting to carry around extra pre-amps. I really was shocked at the
size of the unit and a guy I met (from this group) agreed that it was
larger than life.
When I go on location with the 7* series recorders I take with me 10
extra lithium batteries (still worried about TSA with this) 3"x2" in
diameter. That gives me around 40 hours in the field. (cost about
$375) The equivalent batteries for the Nagra VI would work out at
least a $2000 (10x $199, you have to have their battery or solder up
connections and take lead batteries or heavy D-Cells) I have no doubt
the nagra VI is a fantastic recorder with the menus and front pots,
the Zaxcoms have a great reputation in the business but i believe they
are made for the cart initially. I'm sure the touch screen menus on
the recorders would play up in high humidity, My SD722 and my SD744
have worked perfect at -40f and at 120F including 100% humidity.
Schoeps microphones are reputable mics and great sounding but they
fail in high humidity, would anyone risk taking an untried set-up to
an expensive far away place only to see it malfunction because of the
elements?
I had a similar case when the IBM microdrives first came to play, I
had two 1Gig cards fail on me, I lost valuable data and lost the job I
was working on. 2 cards cost me $10,000 including airfare and expenses.
