To taper off the barrier a little bit near the leading edge. I have no
math or physics to back it up, just a hunch that it might be a good
idea.

I don't have the rig close by at the moment, but my setbacks usually
tend to be around 1.5 to 2 inches. Width around 5.5 to 6 inches. This
is the part where I need to explain that I only give general ranges for
these dimensions because every combination of microphones, materials
and construction methods will call for its own adjustments.

I've tried these rigs at ground level where raccoons could easily get
at them! There's a lot of odd phase and frequency things going on at
ground level, but I've managed to make several very nice recordings
that way. The wire cage is for a fleece fabric wind covering.
