One more thing. If you are planning to use one of those digital voice 
recorders, you should consider the Olympus DS-30.

keep one in my gear bag.
It does allow you to monitor the recordings through headphones. The 
supplied stereo mic does an excellent job and it is detachable! You 
could actually use it in the parabolic dish if you added a suitable 
extension cable. When not in use with the parabolic mic, it can be put 
to use as a field note taker or interview recorder. Most office supply 
stores carry them. I think the thinking that went into the DS-30 put 
Olympus on the path toward making the new LS-10, the more expensive 
device getting so much attention on this list.
