I have used the DSMs both with Sonic Studios' (very expensive) dedicated
preamp (which provides optimized power), and direct off an MZ-R900, with
good results. I don't use an outboard powering solution. I have used the SS
preamp I also have broken out and recorded with my Sound Devices 722.
Last week I received a $70 Sound Professionals 1/8" stereo miniplug female
-> dual XLR male adapter that very conveniently adapts phantom power to
plug-in power. I have not yet tried this; the intention is to run the DSMs
directly into the Sound Devices without need for the SS preamp... it would
save a box in the system; the cable looks like a normal cable; whatever
adaptation is done is being done in miniature. :) I have several people
waiting for reports, I will try this out and report back how it goes...
best,
aaron
