I agree it is not needed when recording unattended. I find it needed when attending the recorder during a session to pause the recorder during quiet periods or approaching airplane, train, automobile noises. It would allow you to avoid entering disturbing the recording area and later save time trying to edit out long quiet or noisy periods. Allows capturing more usable data on limited storage.
