Hi Danny,
I work with a Zaxcom Deva 5. No noise noticable with that machine so I guess 
the ZFR is 
noiseless.
Zaxcom is a great company the products are the top of the range and feedback 
from the 
guys there is great, I can only recommend it.
As for the floating device I would be very careful with condoms over mics and 
other 
improvized waterproofing, it has failed often enough I hear and the problem 
comes more 
often from badly insulated connectors than from the mic itself. I would try to 
build a 
floater that is stable like a small raft and secure the recording device 
whatever it will be in 
a fashion that it is sheltered from splashing. The mic itself will be sheltered 
enough 
through proper windproofing anyway.
