Here's my list of machines to consider, sorted by price. All recorders have two mic input preamps, unless noted All recorders use flash memory for storage, unless noted XLR mic connectors are found in machines priced above $400. < $5000 Sound Devices 744t (hard disc, 2 mic + 2 line inputs, time code) Sonosax SX-R4 (hard disc, 4 mic inputs, available in 6 months?) < $3000 Nagra ARES-BB+ Sound Devices 722 (hard disc) < $2000 Sound Devices 702 Edirol R-4 Pro (4 mic channels, hard disc, time code) < $1000 Tascam HD-P2 (time code) < $700 Marantz PMD671 Marantz PMD660 with Oade modification < $600 Fostex FR-2LE < $400 Edirol R-09 < $300 Sony MZ-RH1 (Hi-MD minidisc) M-Audio Microtrack 2496 < $200 used Hi-MD minidisc recorder used iRiver H120 (hard disc) --oryoki |
