Your contention that long experience tempers the effect of observer
bias is...unscientific. Long experience also reinforces prejudices!

That said, I have no doubt that the proof of the pudding is in the
eating, and that equipment with inferior specs or test results may be
superior in the field because of other factors of field-worthiness.
